2) I don't think I could have ever guessed that they painted directly on the subjects instead of using photoshop. It's almost like those artists that paint people into the backgrounds. Like in the image below.

4) I still think that they are intended to convey the same emotions I had stated in the first question. Despite the new information I have on the medium used to convey the emotions, the emotions are still the same.
